UPSC Geo Scientist Recruitment 2022 | Last Date 11th Oct 2022

Applications were invited for Combined Geo Scientist Examination 2023. Last Date for Submission of Applications: 11th October 2022. Read the Notification / Advertisement for the rules of Combined Geo-Scientist Examination notified by the Government (Ministry of Mines). 


Candidates applying for the Examination should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions for 
admission to the Examination.

UPSC Geo Scientist Recruitment Notification

How to Apply:

Interested and Eligible candidates have to apply online only using the website upsconline.nic.in. 

Candidate have to Register themselves in the One Time Registration if not registered before, thereafter candidate have to do the filling up of the online application for the examination. Detailed instructions are available on the website.

Candidate should have details of one Photo ID like Aadhaar Card / Voter Card / PAN Card / Passport / Driving License / Any other Photo ID Card issued by the State / Central Government. 

Candidates have to upload a scanned copy of the Photo ID Card whose details have been provided in the online application by him / her. Candidates need to carry this Photo ID Card while appearing for Examination / Personality Test.

Last date of Submission of Applications:

Candidates can apply online till 11th October 2022 up to 6 PM. 

Online Applications can be withdrawn from 19th October 2022 to 25th October 2022 till 6 PM

e-Admission Certificate will be issued to eligible candidates three weeks before the commencement of the Examination. e-Admission Certificate can be downloaded from the website https://upsconline.nic.in. No Admission Certificate will be sent by post. 

There will be Negative Marking for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers.

The Preliminary Examination for Combined Geo-Scientist Examination for two Objective Type papers will be conducted on OMR Sheet.

There will be a Screening Test for selection to Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination 2023 on 19th February 2023

Examination Stages:

  • Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type) 
  • Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination (Descriptive Type) 
  • Personality Test / Interview

Main Examination will be held on 24th & 25th June 2023 at following centers Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Shimla.

(i) Geologist, Group A: 216

(ii) Geophysicist, Group A: 21

(iii) Chemist, Group A: 1

Category-II: (Posts in the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation.)

(i) Scientist ‘B’(Hydrogeology) Group ‘A’: 26

(ii) Scientist ‘B’(Chemical ) Group ‘A’: 01

(iii)Scientist ‘B’(Geophysics) Group ‘A’: 02

Minimum Educational Qualification

For Geologist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India 

Master’s degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo- Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource Management or Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Geochemistry from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or an educational institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed university under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956) i.e. recognized University. 

Geophysicist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India and Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics) Group ‘A’ in C.G.W.B.

M.Sc. in Physics or Applied Physics or M.Sc. (Geophysics) or Integrated M.Sc. (Exploration Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Applied Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Marine Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Tech.) (Applied Geophysics) from a University incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature in India or other educational institutes established by an Act of the Parliament or declared to be deemed universities under the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 

Chemist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India and Scientist ‘B’ (Chemical) under C.G.W.B.

M. Sc. in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry from a University incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature or other educational Institutes established by an Act of the Parliament or declared to be deemed Universities under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 i.e. recognized University. 

Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology) Group ‘A’ in C.G.W.B.

Master’s degree in Geology or applied Geology or Marine Geology or Hydrogeology from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational Institutes established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956

Application Fees:

Rs. 200/- (except Female / SC / ST / Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) candidates) to be paid along with the submission of On-line Application Form, either by remitting the money in any Branch of SBI or by using Visa / Master / RuPay Credit / Debit Card / UPI Payment or by using Internet Banking of any Bank.
